On a recent web troll session, I ended up on Sandra Rose, who posted an excerpt from a Denzel Washington interview. I can’t tell you what the original source of that interview is because it’s the internet and people don’t credit things properly. Even a Google search didn’t pull up concrete results so I’m going to deduce that the following snippets are from Denzel’s recent interview with GQ magazine.
Anyway, he feels that the fact that and his wife don’t see each other often has helped his relationship.
“Hollywood gets a bad rap,” said the 57-year-old Oscar winner. “It’s just a place with some footprints in cement. I don’t live there, I live in Los Angeles. But it’s probably helped our marriage that we’re apart a lot.”
Distance is frustrating, and I do agree that it can make the heart grow fonder but I don’t think it’s a good tool for helping a marriage. I hated being away from Mr. Rocque for the two weeks we were apart when we started making the move to Chicago, so I can’t imagine what it would be like if he had a movie star schedule. It seems to me that the longer you’re away from your spouse the more you may risk growing apart.
Then again, Denzel and his wife have been married for 39 years, so what do I know. Newlyweds…hmph!
